New demoscene things

I had some music released on the Zoo demoparty in Finland this weekend.

DiverSIDty #2 is a music disk with music by loads of people like Danko, Fegolhuzz, Flotsam and Shogoon. And me. You can download the file on CSDb and run it in a C64 emulator.

Skybox is a an impressive, noisy, stylish and eerie C64-demo made by the excellent Finnish demogroup Extend (and me). It’s all made in PETSCII, and plenty of it is made by Electric who I have worked with several times before. The demo is available in C64-format at CSDb.

Hey, unrelated but… You know what? In May next year it will be 30 years since I released my first demoscene thing?!

MDMOD Player by Titan

Titan has released a music disk for Sega Megadrive/Genesis with one of my songs. All the songs are Amiga modules, and there is a builder involved so you can create Sega ROMs with your own modules.

aSCII eXPRESS issue 1

Wtf, a brand new diskmag from Up Rough and Divine Stylers that covers the Amiga ASCII and BBS scenes!? That basically lists charts from asciiarena.se, total stats from all the active Amiga elite bulletin boards, and various other bits and pieces??

Of course!

I’ve been involved in the graphics and the music, working together with Dino, K-P and Spot. There’s also work from Dipswitch, Mortimer Twang, Sk!n and others. It’s clearly inspired by the Impure Express from last year, so do check that out as well.

It runs on Amiga 500 (or newer Amigas) and you can download it here. Also Pouet, Demozoo,…

 

Goto22 – ANSCII Carnival

A while back I released a collection of text graphics called Goto20. It was really well received at ASCII Arena, and now I’ve made another one: Goto22. They both use this rather unusual style that is wedged right in between two traditionally conflicting scenes for text graphics: Amiga ASCII and PC ANSI. Basically, I’ve chosen a bastard style that nobody is supposed to like but damnit it’s winning people over, one by one. We call it ANSCII. ANSCIIIIII!! Want to join the movement? I’ve used Blocktronics’ Moebius which is available for Win, Mac and Linux.

I’ve actually joined the ASCII group diViNE stYleRs and this thing of mine was first released on their Amiga BBS, The Yard. Releasing things first on a BBS is the shit. Ok yeah whatever.

Two Hot Compo Tunes

Last weekend I competed with two songs at the Syntax demoparty in Australia. My 90s rave song To The Rave From The Man Cave came last in the wild compo (!?) and the sloppy funk Donkey Dont Care did a little better in the 28 second compo.

Competing with an MP3 rave track in the wrong compo is a first for me. What’s also first, is me understanding the concept of time zones and not handing in contributions 24 hours too late. All in all, a great success.

New C64-demo from Hack n’ Trade released at DATASTORM! PETSCII, noises, animals, laundry tools, music software and other things that are not supposed to be in a demo. It goes on forever, never stop watching!

Features Linde, Ray Manta, Jellica, Ilkke, Frantic, Mathman, AcidT*, me, Whizzy, Chantal Goret and Ant1.

DUBCRT has been cracked!

In 2016 we released DUBCRT – a C64-cartridge with interactive audio and PETSCII-visuals, as well as a Bandcamp-release with remixes. The cartridge had some hidden features, among them a remix-mode where all the songs could be severely decomposed.

Yesterday, it was cracked by the notorious C64-group Triad so now it’s free for download. Not only is it free, but there is documentation and a +3 trainer that gives you instant access to the remix mode, as well as cheats in the sort-of-hidden game. And of course, a crack intro.

Das ist alles gut! That’s exactly what we were thinking when we gave the DUBCRT to them. It means that DUBCRT has been transformed into something else.

From object to software. The original DUBCRT software-on-hardware is a pretty unique object that we spent quite some time to research and design.

From commercial to free. DUBCRT is still for sale (a new batch was just made) but Triad has now set it free.

From art to crack. This is no longer an art work that we made, but a crack that Triad made. They were the ones to set it free and “improve” it so on CSDb the praxis is to give all the credits to the crackers.

This means that DUBCRT has been lifted out of some kind of music/art world, into the scene! I’ve always been intrigued by the border between scene and non-scene, and played around with it before. In fact, I’ve spent quite some time on researching CSDb for an academic article that should be published in a journal later this year. How does CSDb work as a collective memory machine? But I’ll get back to you on that.

Satori – Amis Cope (Amiga demo)

Zden is notorious in the demoscene for his consistent output of abstract/glitch/noise-inspired demos, mostly for PC. Last weekend he released his first Amiga demo, Amis Cope. It uses my music (a recording of a song mostly using the C64). It runs on old Amigas (ECS/OCS) with extra RAM and an FPU (eg a Vampire graphics card), or newer Amigas with accelerator cards (060).

Up Rough Megamix 1! You can download it and run into on your Amiga 1200, or check the video below. It was shown for the first time 10 years ago, but there were some “technical problems” that required 10 years of fixing. You know how it is.
