V/A: 20kbps Rec. Sweet Sixteen Birthday

20kbps rec. is 16 years old, and here‘s a compilation in beautiful low bit rate on L0BIT to celebrate! There’s many familiar names from the low bitrate scene (!?) like Atarix, Overthruster, Sascha Müller, Toxic Chicken, Irrlicht Project, Origami Repetika, The Hardliner… and me. My song is an Amiga song, Luxus, that you might have heard before, but this time with a special C64 “acid” thing added.
I’ve released stuff on 20kbps since 2004, btw. Two mini-albums among other things.
Storhjernan Protracker Video

Okay, this is how Storhjernan (Storhjärnan? Storgärnan3?) looks in Protracker, the Amiga software that I made it with. The song was recently featured in the music disk Chiperia X. Cheers to Slash, also for capturing the video.
Storhjärnan for Chiperia

Chiperia X was released last week with one of my songs: Storhjärnan. It’s a song that I made for a talent show on TV that I was asked to be in after that cabbage/salad performance got “popular”. Me, The Toilet, Ljudit Andersson and Frantik were going to perform this in an arena in front of a celebrity jury with Mega Competence. Never happened though. Not because of us, though. Well, read all about it in the scroll text, just like it was 1993! The tune starts at 04:22 in this video, so you have two seconds to prepare…
Chiperia is a series of Amiga music disks organized by Slash, one of the most dedicated Amiga music people I know. Check out his YouTube with more than 2000 videos of songs playing in Protracker.
Live Recording with PET.CORP
Sweet <3 for my Def Jam
Last weekend I was in the Netherlands to play at the X’2018 C64 fiesta, and the lovely Gifgrond in Tilburg. I played a fully improvised set, where I start completely from scratch and make all the instruments and composingz as I go along.
Yeah I Know It Sucks had some very nice things to say about my performance. This approach was so unique and friendly, totally unique and exposed; where normally a lot of electronic musicians hide behind their desk, Goto80 showed the polar opposite. [..] He had nothing to hide, didn’t come out all the way from Sweden to play a game of digital patience or check out his emails; he sincerely laid himself and his music process bare, naked in front of you with astonishing music as a result.
Thanks for that! Feels particularly pleasing since I’m working on an album of C64-improvs at the moment. That will be out next year, after I release another album that I’m working on…
So many albums, so little shirbums.
Featured in the radio show Diggin’ in the Carts
Diggin’ in the carts was started by Nick Dwyer as a rather fantastic video documentary series in 2014 and has continued as a radio show focused on Japanese game music since.
In this brand new episode they are looking outside of Japan for the first time, and they interviewed me about the history of computer and video game music in the West. Rather big topic, eh? :) Pete from Anamanaguchi is also in the show.
So enjoy! It will go offline in 29 days I think.
Lecture in Frankfurt
I’m doing a presentation called HOW 8-BIT MACHINES CHANGED ELECTRONIC MUSIC at Robert Johnson Theorie in Frankfurt, on 20 October (not 13 as it said before). I will do some critical history on computer music and trackers, as well as the cultures around music/scene/cracking. Basically, I will prove that trackers are the best. =) And will also play some tunes, oh yup.
PET.CORP will also join and talk about their new mega tool for PETSCII visuals!
Gifgrond in Tilburg, the Netherlands
Doing an improvised set at Gifgrond on November 3rd and it looks like it’s going to be a pretty dang good evening!
Tiefengrund, Frankfurt w/ PET.CORP
I’ll perform together with PET.CORP (Ailadi & Jambonbill aka Sidabitball) for the first time soon! In Frankfurt on October 12th at Tiefengrund FFM to be exact. And the day after we will do a lecture/performance together, also in Frankfurt, but more about that later.
X’2018, Someren, the Netherlands
I’m playing at X’2018, the huge C64 demo party in the Netherlands where people like Reyn Ouwehand and Wacek will also perform.
