RELEASES

S T A L L O

S T A L L O is a 110-minute album with hazy, slow, eerie and dreamy music, mostly jammed out on Commodore 64. You can see how that jamming happens in the video below for Bilin.

A few shout outs to the people involved: Akai Selzer who spent 2 days jamming with me in Frankfurt, Jacob Remin who helped the robot to do a new live version of Synkex, which opens S T A L L O (and was also used in Korridoren, made with Björn Bengtsson), Paul Cousins who did the remix of Stures Bröd, Bob Nimbe for the VR goat video and Dubmood who did the layout.

If you like this kind of stuff, there’s good news. This album is actually the first in a series that’s coming out on Data Airlines soon. They’ll all be in a somewhat similar vein. If you don’t want to miss out just subscribe to the RSS-feed of this blog. Lol, I know, only freax like me subscribe to RSS. Uh, so, either follow my newsletter or my Bandcamp account. Everything else is a scam.

808642 (On Tape)

A while back, on 808-day, I released 808642 and now the tape version is out! It includes a new song as well as remixes by Mesak, Dubmood and Abe Sangin. Just like 80864 it uses primarily TR-808 and Commodore 64, but also other things. A lot of the songs are based on jams, and the last song is actually a 15 minute jam that I didn’t have time to finish properly, but I included it anyway.

Get it on Bandcamp

Pst – if you already bought the digital release and didn’t get an email with a discount code for the tape version, get in touch.

808642

808642 is my new release to celebrate 808-day (8/8) like a real drum machine freak. You get some electro, techno, some sort of pop, drum n’ bass and some slow beats.

w93.m3u

My new album is out now on cassette:  w93.m3u. It’s a lo-fi odyssey of pre-retro disco-electro beat-pop made on the Commodore Amiga. Hey, maybe we can call it amigawave? ٩(◕‿◕)۶

All 14 songs are about 2,3 megabytes in total, in the original mod-format. That’s small enough to fit on two floppy disks, with enough space for bonus multimedia material! Hmmm….

I’ve used Protracker 2.3D mostly using extremely illegal evil pirate samples from this archive full of low-quality teenage samplings. Download that and use Protracker for Win/MacOS/Linux and you’re good to go. Highly recommended studio setup!

The songs first appeared in April on Windows93.net. It shows the mod-files playing in a post-groovy Windows window. Check it out here or if that doesn’t work, go to windows93.net and click the G80.M3U icon.

Shirbum

My new release is not just an album, but also a shirt. It’s a shirbum! Catchy and melancholic pop music full of mega basic FM-sounds, synth speech vocals, 80’s drum machines and friendly acid bombs. Made in cooperation with PET.CORP (who btw just launched some other PETSCII-clothes in their shop).

  • Shirbum is a high-quality tailor-made C64-shirt that comes with all the 23 songs (QR/stream/download).
  • Shirbum Light is the naked digital version with 15 songs (also on Spotify)

The shirt won’t be available for long, so choose wisely! When you place your order you will get the music instantly, and the shirt will be shipped as soon as the tailor is done (more info here).

Btw, the shirt shows one of the songs from the album (Buck) as it looks in the C64-software, JCH Editor, that it was made in.

Maniac Mansion / Superdöner

My old band Superdöner has joined forces with the legendary US band Maniac Mansion, to release some of the earliest chip punk music from about 15 years ago. It’s like pizza meeting döner! Finally!

Available on Bandcamp, via the protoDATA label.

(Btw, I’ve also designed the graphics, making spray stencils in square kufic style like a bouz)

Son Ionic

Me and Josh Bailey‘s live performance in New Zealand with his own tesla coil instrument Chime Red is out now on protoDATA as Son Ionic. It comes on an SD-card that sits on this amazing A2 PETSCII-poster by Tommi Musturi (aka Electric). The card contains all the songs as audio and video, as well as the C64 source files, and a small intro with the poster graphics animated.

Most of the songs have been released before, but have been remixed for this performance and to include Josh’s tesla coil instrument Chime Red.

Split Tape with A Campbell Payne

This here be a split release together with A Campbell Payne, where I’m doing skweee and he’s doing Nanoloop techno/beats. Now available for pre-order at Rhythmus Records (cassette/download). It will be a very limited run of the cassettes, so don’t be lazy if you want one. And here’s a taste of my share on the cassette:

And you thought that skweee was dead, huh?

Floptrik

Floptrik is an album with Commodore 64 electro/acid/funk songs available as normal recordings for download, and as executable C64-programs on a 3.5″ floppy. Everything can be downloaded from CPU Records. The floppy is available at bleep.com, but might disappear fast.

– “Birds On Fire Note” captures what sets Carlsson apart from gimmicky chiptune artists. The heaving bassline on “Monday Night,” for instance, rivals any modern techno or dubstep track. Floptrik sounds like literal computer music. It’s not always easy listening, but it’s a fascinating extension of the CPU aesthetic.”
Andrew Ryce, Resident Advisor

The programs are remixes and visuals, all contained in a 170 kilobyte disk image. They can be played on a Commodore 64 or in an emulator (instructions here). The remixes sound different every time they are played, by re-arranging the song and changing the instruments. The visuals are all in C64’s colourful ASCII-mode, PETSCII, and were made by Raquel Meyers, Linde, and Johan Kotlinski aka Mathman. See below. Originally released in the demoscene.

The audio recordings are in stereo, where the left channel uses the new SID-chip (8580), and the right uses the old one (6581). Both play the same 3 voices of the original song, but since the chips are different you get these cool hi-fi stereo lifestyle defects.

“Bet you didn’t know the Commodore64 could make dance floor jams like this.”
–  Sedge808, including Floptrik in a Best of June list.
